This was an interesting movie. In the 30's things were changing fast. Air travel was starting out, cars were taking over the streets big time. steam engines
...
had replaced sail. Electric, telephones, radio, TV were just starting out. We are talking big changes, frightening changes to many people. Most of these folks remember the horrors of WWI! So this movie is quite understandable. Change is OK but there are times when things change too much and too fast. Some people might have remembering the Titanic! I liked the sailing rigs in this movie. I've had the opportunity to skipper boats like the vessels shown in this movie. I was shocked by how well they handled and how sea kindly they are. Also this movie makes one excellent point, Sailing requires discipline and team work. People who really learn to sail do learn to work as a team. My wife and I have been sailing for 30 odd years now and sailing has done wonders for us. Good movie!!!

A pretty lightweight comedy here. This stars Walter Brennan stars as Captain Ricks, a family patriarch who returns home after a long trip abroad to find
...
his personal and business affairs all in a shambles! His daughter is getting married to a shlub he doesnt approve of, his business has been taken over by his future mother-in-law AND his ship, his pride and joy has become automated! Ricks takes matters into his own hands and literally tries to be captain of the ship again by taking them on a cruise where he can try to boss everyone around and be in control everyone again. But it doesnt work, so he takes matters into his own hands, he shipwrecks everyone so he can get everyone straightened out!
Walter Brennan is great here as is the whole cast. And I love the whole Captain of the ship motif that they have going on here. The one problem I have with this is that it goes on far too long, going into one madcap adventure after another. Some lengthening of scenes (as opposed to shorter subplot scenes) would have done the trick here

The painful theme of this show is really the old way is the right way. Any change is bad. If your family changes take them to a deserted island and change

them. Skip this one.
